FAQs about Barnabas RE Days

How much does a Barnabas RE Day cost?

A full day visit normally costs just £325, but during 2010 the price has been reduced as a special offer to £275 . Please supply lunch and drinks for the Barnabas team member. There are no additional costs payable.

How do I book a Barnabas RE Day?

Decide on three possible dates that you know are suitable for you and telephone the Barnabas team administrator on 01865 319704 or e-mail barnabas@brf.org.uk to check which of these dates are available.

Once a date has been agreed, complete and return the booking form, along with a map or travel directions to the school and a non-returnable deposit of £50. Please make cheques payable to BRF.

Alternatively you can make a booking online.

On receipt of the booking form, three contracts will be sent to you for signature. Keep one copy for your own records and return two copies to the Barnabas team administrator. You will also be sent a pre-visit pack. Please complete the timetable checklist in the pack and return a copy with the contracts, keeping a copy for your own records. The Barnabas team member will phone you approximately one month before your Barnabas RE Day to agree the timetable.

The balance of £275 (£225 during 2010) is payable within 30 days of your Barnabas RE Day. An invoice will be sent from BRF.

If you have any questions, please contact the Barnabas team administrator on direct line 01865 319704 or via e-mail barnabas@brf.org.uk.

How many Barnabas team members will come?

One member from the Barnabas team will facilitate your Barnabas RE Day.

How will I know which creative arts specialism I will be getting?

If you have a particular preference for the artistic discipline for the workshops - such as storytelling, dance, drama or music - then please discuss this with the Barnabas team administrator when you first make contact about your booking and every effort will be made to match the Barnabas team member's professional skills with your booking request. This will however always be subject to availability.

Is there a travel cost?

There is no additional charge for travel over and above the basic standard cost for the Barnabas RE Day.

What sort of equipment or resources will I need to provide?

In most cases each Barnabas team member will bring with her or him any resources that will be used with the children during the workshops, such as simple props for drama or visual aids for storytelling. If a Barnabas team member does have a specific request for something that the school will need to provide - such as a screen or whiteboard to display a picture, or some art and craft materials for a class response to a particular activity or story, then this will be discussed beforehand when that Barnabas team member makes contact with the school to discuss the day. The most important ‘resource’ for a Barnabas RE Day is a large area such as the school hall or a spacious classroom in which to conduct the workshops.

How can I best prepare my school for your visit?

Once a date has been decided on and contracts signed and returned to BRF, a copy is sent to the member of the Barnabas team who will be coming to your school. He or she will then telephone the organising teacher about four weeks before the scheduled visit. This is the moment to talk through the day in detail and ask any questions about the content of the workshops and the assembly, to discuss the themes and to outline any other particular features or specific requests related to your school.

It is important to make sure that all the staff are fully aware of the nature and purpose of the day and you will find it helpful to download detailed information for them from this website. There is also Barnabas RE Day follow-up material for each theme available on this website, which can be passed on to teachers to give ideas as to how the content of the workshops and assemblies might be developed within the classroom.

Are there further resources from Barnabas, which I could use to support the teaching of RE at my school?

Barnabas publishes a growing and exciting range of books to support RE and collective worship. Written by experienced teachers each book aims to explore Christianity creatively and introduce ways to bring the stories of the Bible to life for learners.

The Barnabas team member who visits your school will bring along some sample copies of the latest books from Barnabas and an order form (offering a scale of discount) will be enclosed with the support documents sent to your school for the Barnabas RE Day.

In addition, the full range of Barnabas books is available to view on this website with curriculum links. There are sample pages from each book and, of course, the books can be ordered on line.
