About Barnabas in Schools

Barnabas is BRF’s children’s imprint, publishing books to resource primary teachers and other adults concerned for the spiritual welfare of the child, with an emphasis on RE, PSHE, citizenship, life issues and seasonal material. Alongside a range of great books, the professional and experienced Barnabas team offers a range of activities to promote ‘excellence and enjoyment’ in the ongoing RE and PSHE work of your school. These include Barnabas RE Days creative arts days, INSET sessions , and a range of outlines and ideas to download and use with your children to explore Christianity creatively.

Are you asking any of these questions...

Where can I find easy-to-use Bible-based resources for RE?
Barnabas books are full of ready-to-use ideas for assemblies, RE, PSHE, Citizenship and circle time. There are also several books of seasonal and Christmas plays for children to perform. Many of the books have photocopy permission. See the range of Barnabas books and resources and outlines and ideas available.

How can we link RE and the creative arts?
RE lends itself to discovery through the creative arts. Through Barnabas RE Days days we can bring the Bible to life in your school. We have a team of professional actors, dancers and storytellers, one of whom will spend a whole day in your school leading assembly, workshops and performances for the children, using storytelling, drama, mime or dance. He or she will bring to life stories that explore the themes of ‘Whose World?’, ‘Who is my Neighbour?’, ‘Who am I?’, ‘What's so special about the Bible?’ or ‘It's not fair!’ or will base the day around a season of the church year such as Easter, Christmas or Harvest. Each team member is trained to work with children in the full range of age groups from Foundation/Reception and KS1 to Year 6 at KS2.

How can we give our teachers some space for reflection?
Those who work in the pressured environment of a school often feel the need to recharge their spiritual batteries. BRF offers a Quiet Day programme both for primary teachers and for head teachers. The day can be structured to suit the needs of the school, either as a full day of three sessions or a session alongside an INSET programme. Sessions will use the Godly Play approach, followed by space for personal reflection.
