FAQs about Barnabas INSET

How much does it cost?

For each session (up to 2 hours) the cost is £150 plus travel.

Barnabas asks for a deposit (10% of the booking cost) to accompany the booking form, which should be sent for the attention of the Barnabas team co-ordinator.

How do I book a Barnabas INSET?

Decide the date you would like the INSET session to take place and telephone the Barnabas team co-ordinator at BRF on 01865 319704 to check that this date is available.

Once the date has been accepted, complete and return the booking form to BRF, along with a map or travel directions to the school and a non-returnable deposit. Please make cheques payable to BRF.

A contract will be sent to you and the Barnabas team member who will be facilitating your INSET will telephone you to discuss the day about four weeks before the event.

The balance, plus the mileage cost, is payable within 7 days of the INSET session. An invoice will be sent from BRF.

Is there a maximum number?

The recommended maximum number that can attend a Barnabas INSET session is 30.

Can we combine elements from different topics?

Following discussion with the Barnabas team co-ordinator and the individual Barnabas team member who will be leading the INSET, a session may combine elements from more than one of the session topics. This is particularly recommended in the case of including an element of Quiet Spaces in your planned training programme. To talk this through, contact the Barnabas team co-ordinator on 01865 319704.

Will there be handouts?

The Barnabas team member taking the session for your school will bring information and literature. In addition there are follow-up session notes available on this website for each of the INSET topics.

What facilities might the school need to provide?

This is something to discuss with the Barnabas team member before the visit, but generally he or she will bring along any particular equipment or resources that are needed for that session; however the availability of a white board or flip chart is often useful. Sessions can take place in a classroom, in the staff room or in part of the hall, as long as there is enough space for some interactive learning and group work to take place.

Will there be a chance to view/purchase Barnabas books?

The visiting Barnabas team member will bring along a set of Barnabas books for staff to look through. These books may be purchased using the special INSET order form, which will be sent to the school beforehand and which allows books to be bought from a central school budget and at a discount.

Books are also available via this website. View the complete range of books for schools.

Will there be an opportunity to talk with the Barnabas team member before he/she comes?

Once a date has been fixed for the INSET following discussions with the Barnabas team co-ordinator, a contract will be drawn up and three copies will be sent to the school for signature. Two copies should be returned to the Barnabas team co-ordinator and the third copy is for the school’s own reference. A copy of the signed contract will be sent to the Barnabas team member who will be undertaking this booking. He or she will then telephone the school about four weeks before the date of the INSET to discuss with the organiser the details of the training event.

Will Barnabas lead a session for a group of schools in an area?

Barnabas appreciates that many schools work in clusters, particularly in rural areas, and that it makes good sense to bring teachers together for a combined INSET session. Barnabas is happy to work this way so that it can support and resource as many teachers as possible in the creative delivery of Christianity within RE.
